Oliver Willis can't possibly be a comics fan
well this looks fun. btw @dccomics i like hal jordan but i miss having a green lantern book with jessica cruz and simon baz. muslim and latina green lanterns saving the planet ftw https://t.co/iNNmi4oMRZ— Oliver Willis (@owillis) March 25, 2019
for awhile hal jordan was off earth and the other green lanterns were indisposed, so two new lanterns were chosen for earth - simon baz, who is muslim pic.twitter.com/KdeV6xv3hz— Oliver Willis (@owillis) March 25, 2019
and jessica cruz, who is latina. i especially liked cruz's backstory because she witnessed a murder and had ptsd about being out in the world, and on top of it she had to be a green lantern, overcome her self-doubt, and beat the bad guys. real bedrock hero stuff. pic.twitter.com/HbOHkBohwU— Oliver Willis (@owillis) March 25, 2019
I think he got this info off of Wikipedia (someone else certainly figured this), but that's beside the point. Because here's what happened next, when Ethan Van Sciver was brought up:
yes, he's also a racist misogynist comicsgate asshole— Oliver Willis (@owillis) March 25, 2019
You're a stain on comics— Oliver Willis (@owillis) March 26, 2019
You've gone from working on legit comics to drawing frogs for incels and chopping off action figure heads. Winning. Enjoy your life.— Oliver Willis (@owillis) March 26, 2019
Let's see. He first said he loved Cruz, whom van Sciver co-created as an artist. In that case, why the nasty dismissal of van Sciver next? Doesn't that demonstrate non-gratitude? Putting aside for a moment that I still think her origin was in poor taste, that's a mighty strange thing to say you dig a particular creation yet not be willing to thank the artist behind the character. Though it's pretty apparent why Willis must dig the Baz character, given what kind of propaganda his origins and background were built on, and the propaganda angle featured in Justice League was downright offensive. Of recent, DC may be moving away from the character, presumably because they realized it was taking too much political toll at this point, but chances are equally possible I'm mistaken, and the sooner you know it, they'll be boomeranging back to forcing said propaganda down readers' throats and won't do anything to remake the Baz character into something more tasteful.
Van Sciver went on to write the following reply to Willis:
Oliver, are you trying to say that Independent Comics aren't "legit?"— ComicArtistPro Secrets (@EthanVanSciver) March 26, 2019
Only the failing Big Two offer "legitimacy?"
NEVER speak about comic books again, you strange monstrosity. 😂🤷♂️🌈
Trump is innocent of collusion and he'll be re-elected. LOSING. Enjoy your life. https://t.co/ba676N6Mu8
On this, I can concur. Willis doesn't sound like a comics fan, only a virtue-signaler who picks certain items to "praise" even as he surely doesn't care for them. And that's why he'd do better to stop talking about comic books altogether, because he sure doesn't sound like he thanks the founders of the industry for all their hard work. People like him are exactly why the medium's fallen.

You gotta admit, Van Sciver sounds like a crazed troll in those posts. He is his own worst enemy.

I'll have to agree. It can be irresistible to troll these people, but it's much better to make polite, logical responses and watch them destroy themselves.

What about what Van Sciver said wasn't polite and logical?

" because he sure doesn't sound like he thanks the founders of the industry for all their hard work."
Van Sciver is not exactly a founder of the industry!
