If only this reviewer of the new Hawkeye TV show knew

A writer at the Federalist took a look at the new TV show based on Hawkeye, which appears to draw from - where else? - the newest material published in the past decade or so, introducing a daughter figure named Kate Bishop, and at a time when mainstream comicdom's lost so much that made it work before. But maybe most annoying is what the columnist says next:
It’s a feat of storytelling and corporate synergy unmatched prior to this franchise. I confess, I want to keep watching these new-Marvel-TV-dinners-every-week. But perhaps to the chagrin of people more invested in this whole endeavor, I’ve not read any source comics or even watched any of the darker Netflix Marvel shows. Now the fan chatter indicates one really needs to.
Well if we're talking about what's come since the early 2000s, it's truly awful (I remember reading a Hawkeye book published around Joe Quesada's early years as EIC, and it was terrible, and slow). Still, I get the feeling that, even if the above columnist did read these much newer books, he'd take a very soft stance, and no matter how politically correct they were, he wouldn't say anything. And just what fans and chatter is he talking about? For a TV audience only? Or people who don't care how far Marvel's mightiness has fallen? Not my type of audience to be part of.

And the darkness of the Netflix Marvel adaptations is exactly why I'd rather stay away from those, along with the channel itself, having long been aware of just how PC-pandering they are. A pity he doesn't seem to care.
