Mark Millar moves over to Dark Horse
Mark Millar — the legendary comic book creator behind such acclaimed series as Wanted, The Magic Order, Jupiter’s Legacy, Kick-Ass, Super Crooks, and Kingsman: The Secret Service — has officially joined forces with Dark Horse Comics, Forbes Entertainment can exclusively reveal.Considering Dark Horse isn't exactly a place friendly to conservatives, and Millar himself does projects with a studio as woke as Netflix, this really isn't a big deal, and besides, Millar's perpetuating the entertainment industry's serious problem with sensationalized violence. We could honestly do without that. This is why Millar's arguments that seemingly touch on what's wrong with the industry don't carry much weight.
Under this deal, the company (founded and fronted by president Mike Richardson) becomes the brand-new publishing home of Millar’s creator-owned titles. All of them are housed under the “Millarworld” banner, whose film and television rights were scooped up by Netflix in August 2017 for an estimated $30-$50 million.
[...] The collaboration includes five new titles — all of which are slated to be doled out across 2024. While further details won’t emerge until the spring, we do know that one of the series, Nemesis: Rogues’ Gallery (drawn by artist Valerio Giangiordano), will continue the blood-soaked saga of Millar and Steve McNiven’s felonious, ultra-violent riff on the Batman archetype.
“Beyond this, I’m working hard on the 2025 launches right now, four completely new series you’re going to love,” Millar teased. ‘This feels like a partnership made in heaven already and now [that] the strikes are over and the pandemic is in the rear-view mirror, we can start to roll out all the associated shows and movies at Netflix too. I’m buzzing, but this might just be the booze.”
