Canadian university builds comics collection solely for wokeness

The Vancouver Island University's announced they've acquired more comics for their archives, but it turns out the leading donors provided them with some woke items, as they're known today:
Stanley’s collection goes well beyond the DC and Marvel universes – in fact, you won’t find those comics in this collection. In her years of collecting, Stanley focused on female authors, indie comics, autobiographies, graphic journalism and LGBTQ+ comics, all from a variety of countries.

“Another strong subset is medical comics, where people are writing about mental and physical health issues they are struggling with,” she said. “There are also quite a few trans narratives about people transitioning. I encourage people to come and have a browse. If you’re not familiar with the genre, there’s lots of small ones to get started with.”
Wow, just what the world needs, yet surely not unexpected coming from an institute that could now symbolize perversion instead of science. This is what she considers worth reading about? What a sorry situation we have here.
Stanley, who also taught English and Studies in Women and Gender at VIU, has researched and published on comic books, graphic novels, manga, graphic memoir and other forms of sequential art for years. She started getting into comics as a kid and developed a passion for the genre while in grad school at Oxford University in the 1980s. During that time, comics such as The Dark Knight, Watchmen and Maus started appearing and her interest was reignited.
While Maus does have significance based on its historical subject of the Holocaust, the other 2 examples cited are decidedly very problematic, especially viewed in the context of her woke perspectives. Over the years, I've noticed quite a few interviews and citations like these where more optimistic stories never factor into the discussion, if at all. Spider-Man's marriage to Mary Jane Watson, in example, remained almost non-existent in these puff pieces. If all these "scholars" care about is darkness, something's terribly wrong.

Once again, modern universities have demonstrated why they're not worth wasting money on for educational programs.

About me

  • I'm Avi Green
  • From Jerusalem, Israel
  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
