Why would Gal Gadot playing the evil queen in a live action remake of Snow White be a big deal?

Ynetnews reports that, however the live action Snow White movie is being made, its trailer was seen at the D23 Expo, including Gal Gadot's turn as the evil queen mother of the leading lady:
At the annual D23 Expo, Disney Studios unveiled a slew of new series and films early Saturday, including the announcement of the fifth installment in the Toy Story franchise, the title of the third Avatar sequel and a new series based on Pixar's blockbuster Inside Out.

These are just a few of the new productions showcased on the first day of the conference in Anaheim, California. However, Israeli audiences are likely most excited about Gal Gadot's appearance in the live-action remake of Snow White, for which the first trailer was released at the event.

Gadot, who has been absent from the screen lately, returns in the musical version of the fairytale directed by Marc Webb, playing the Evil Queen. In the nearly textless trailer, she is heard uttering the famous line, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" Rachel Zegler stars as Snow White, who is left in the forest and aided by seven CGI dwarfs.
Okay, so we know that this movie will, contrary to previous news and footage seen of SJW-themed live action cast members, will now be host to CGI-based dwarves (or animatronic, whichever describes it best). But at this point, it's not very exciting to see Gadot play a crook at a time when antisemites would surely consider this a huge treat to their mentalities, and even if it's just a movie role, I for one am not enthusiastic about seeing Gadot or the movie itself, for reasons further discussed below. Before that, however, here's what they say about Marvel-based products:
What's happening at Marvel? No updates yet on Shira Haas and the character of Sabra in Captain America: Brave New World, but the superhero franchise will receive several new series, such as Daredevil: Born Again, which will reboot the character of Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox, reminiscent of the time when Marvel series aired on Netflix, before the launch of Disney+. Alongside Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio will return as Kingpin, Jon Bernthal will reprise his well-received role as Punisher, and Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer will return as Vanessa.

Dominique Thorne, who made her debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as Riri Williams, is taking another step toward her own series — Ironheart — created by Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Creed). The villainous Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn, first introduced in the series WandaVision, is also returning in her own series, Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The new trailer introduced fans to Ryo Vidal (Aubrey Plaza), who rises from the dead.
This news doesn't excite me either, and the part about Harkness being a villainess is an insult too, since in the original comics continuities, she was anything but that. Yet again, the MSM, even here, will not get its facts straight. That aside, this news just doesn't succeed in interesting me either. And wasn't the sequel movie to BP a failure? So what good does it do to produce a TV program starring a character was, unfortunately, the product of social justice crafting?

Back on the issue of Snow White, here's a very telling difference revealed on i24 News the new live action remake will have from the original cartoon:
In a notable departure from the 1937 animated classic, this new version of "Snow White" reimagines the classic story with a modern twist.

According to Gadot, who described her role as "great, evil, and magical," the film’s Snow White will not be saved by a prince nor will she be focused on finding true love
. Instead, the character is portrayed as a determined leader who aspires to fulfill her deceased father’s legacy.
So if this was what the original screenplay was said to be built upon, it clearly hasn't changed, in contrast to the depiction of the 7 dwarves, which Disney must've only altered because they thought that alone would be enough to stave off criticism of their woke directions. But all they're doing, practically with Gadot's own approval, is insulting the original material, based, if anything, on how the new live action screenplay follows a modern PC narrative that a woman falling in love with a man - even one who's not portrayed as a rescuer - is somehow bad. Well I'm sorry, but if they believe romance is suddenly something wrong, then this is worthless.

Interestingly, the Hindustan Times says the main stars got a negative reception from pop culture observers who checked the footage available so far:
After months of speculation, Disney has finally unveiled the first trailer for the live-action remake of Snow White. The trailer was released at the fan-favourite event D23 in Anaheim, California, on Friday. While the film became a subject of controversy when it was first announced in 2016, the teaser has only added fuel to the fire, with fans attacking Rachel Zegler and Peter Dinklage online.

Netizens slam Disney for casting Rachel Zegler as Snow White

The 23-year-old actress has been under fire even before Disney released a trailer for the Snow White remake. Last year, Zegler faced major criticism for her controversial remarks about the upcoming film, which is set to hit the theatres in 2025. “I just mean that it’s no longer 1937. We absolutely wrote a ‘Snow White’ that ... she’s not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love," she said at the time, per Variety. [...]

Ardent Disney fans have flooded social media criticising showrunners, with one saying, “This looks like hot garbage.” “Are you really expecting us to believe that Snow White is more beautiful than the villain?” wrote another user on X, formerly Twitter. The clip, which was aimed at providing viewers with a “magical” experience, has sparked a debate over “woke” casting, with another user saying, “Woke flop. Lets add it to the list.”

Another user said, “The trailer looks fine but unfortunately Rachel Ziegler has done irreparable damage to this film by trashing the original film for clout. If the classic plot elements that she said are omitted from the film really aren’t there, then this is going to be a dumpster fire.”
So clearly, there's still much wrong with film if this is where they're going. One can reasonably wonder why, if they could jettison the previous woke casting, they couldn't restore the theme of a prince coming to Snow White's rescue. At worst, it all reveals Disney's managers as modern day cowards. Their mistake was in basing this on Snow White in the first place, instead of developing a stand-alone project unrelated to the fairy tale. Why they continue to demonstrate such bankruptcy of creativity is bizarre. And seeing Gadot playing a crook, is no big deal, because anybody allegedly big in Hollywood could take the same roles, and that alone doesn't make it something to be excited about. Just because she must want to take something different from her role as Wonder Woman? Sorry, it's no big deal, and besides, she made a woke joke out of her previous role in the 2020 sequel anyway.

Update: while what's told about the scripting in the new live action movie is appalling, Israel Hayom reveals there's something else even more so, that Gadot was subject to antisemitic comments on social media, her leftist positions notwithstanding:
The release of the trailer for Disney's live-action remake of "Snow White" has sparked an antisemitic campaign on social media against Israeli actress Gal Gadot. Pro-Palestinian users have criticized Gadot's casting as the Evil Queen and called for a boycott of the film, citing her Israeli background and previous military service. [...]

The trailer's release prompted a wave of reactions online. While hundreds of thousands of Israeli and Jewish users lavished praise on Gadot, expressing immense pride, a significant number of responses criticized her casting. The most vehement opposition came from pro-Palestinian users, who not only objected to Gadot's role but also directed harsh personal attacks against her.

One comment read, "She may be more beautiful than Rachel Zegler, but at least Rachel isn't a Zionist." Others wrote, "The CGI for the dwarfs looks fine, but they need to reshoot the evil Zionist Gal Gadot." As discussions continued, references to Zionism and Gadot's military service became increasingly prevalent.

Numerous responses went beyond criticism to call for a boycott of the film. "Remember, this movie stars the proud Zionist and former IDF soldier Gal Gadot. Don't watch or support it," read dozens of such comments. Another user wrote, "Gal Gadot playing a villain in this movie is perfect casting."
What's really appalling is that this could put some people with more common sense in the unpleasant position of wondering if they should support the movie just because of the unfortunate if predictable backlash against Gadot by antisemites, to whom it makes no difference how far she leans to the left. But it's really no big deal whether the movie tanks when it debuts, based on its PC directions the antisemites are actually likely to be fine with outside of Gadot's casting. And that last nasty comment quoted sums up exactly why it's actually regrettable Gadot decided to play the baddie here, because it makes an anti-Israelist's dream come true. And maybe that's exactly why it's also disappointing any Jewish posters thought it a good idea to laud Gadot for the role she's taken as the Evil Queen, if only because the timing is really poor.

And as noted before, WW 1984 had disturbing metaphors hurtful to Israel as much as the USA, one more reason why pro-Israeli realists needn't feel bad if they boycott the Snow White film. Something tells me the antisemites quoted on social media have no interest in seeing the new movie next year anyway. Still, of course it's a shame whenever it comes to cases like these on social media.
