New Superman movie may not make as much as 2013's Man of Steel adaptation

All without acknowledging the leftist political metaphors in Gunn's Superman film are insulting to the intellect, and suggest modern liberal filmmakers aren't willing to do an ostensibly bright movie without resorting to such tactics. Optimistic visions can only work well if the filmmakers avoid being politically divisive and alienating.
Released on July 11, Gunn’s Superman movie took home just $8.4 million globally this past weekend for a total haul of $595 million after six weeks in theaters.
“Over the weekend, Superman added $3.1 million overseas and $8.4 million globally. At this point, “Superman” is unlikely to surpass the haul of the character’s last solo outing, 2013’s Man of Steel, which flew to $670 million (not adjusted for inflation),” noted Variety.
And whatever Variety says, $670 million was possibly not quite as expensive a sum a dozen years ago as it's gotten today, when movie budgets and marketing/promotion campaigns have become so costly, it practically takes global box office to repay the costs. For all we know, at this point, unless somebody thinks of a way to reduce the cost of special effects, chances are the Superman film will need to make at least $800 million to break even, as some have surely thought already. But, it's really no big deal if these films don't do so well, since if the filming crews won't avoid divisive politics, then it's just no use buying tickets, and it's unlikely this new film will be remembered in history as a "classic" any more than countless other mainstream movies that've come down the pike since the turn of the century.
