Scott Beatty was lucky

I could only find a brief of an article in the Altoona Mirror about this, but, Scott Beatty got his start on comics by staying behind sick and not going to see Star Wars in 1977:
ALEXANDRIA - Scott Beatty was laid up in a hospital bed with pneumonia in the spring of 1977 when "Star Wars" debuted.

But instead of meeting Obi-Wan Kenobi, he was introduced to Ritchie Rich, The Batman family and The Secret Society of Super-Villains.

"My grandfather took everyone to see 'Star Wars,' but I was in that bed. My dad bought these three comic books at the gift shop at J.C. Blair [Memorial Hospital], and after that, I was hooked," Beatty said.
Well hey, let me assure you that were lucky to have stayed behind so that you could get your first look at comic books, Beatty. These days, as someone who reads more than he watches movies and TV, I'd say that was a most fortunate occurance.

About me

  • I'm Avi Green
  • From Jerusalem, Israel
  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
