I knew there could be some more comics in my collection with letter pages where certain correspondents do not make logical comments about fictional characters. Here, it's the 7th issue of The Secret Defenders, a title that ran between 1993-95 and the first third was written by Roy Thomas, in one of the last efforts he made at the time writing comics for the Big Two. In the first of 4 letters here, somebody attacks the Punisher by telling the editors,
"Up until Secret Defenders #4, I could never stand the Punisher. His egotistical attitude, and his "moral" code always turned me off." And no complaints about the writers or any editors who set the tone. "His"? Sigh. How is it some people, if they're really bothered by the characterization, can't figure out for themselves where it came from, which is not the character him/herself, but rather, from whomever was writing the script in real life. At least the guy admits Thomas' story co-starring Namorita changed his mind.
The Secret Defenders was an attempt to revive the older series that ran during 1972-86, but after Thomas left, Ron Marz took over for the second third, and then Tom Brevoort wrote the final third, so it shouldn't be any wonder Secret Defenders lost any interest people may have had when Thomas first launched the series. If I could get any more of this series, it would only be the 8 issues Thomas wrote, and the rest of it is best forgotten.

...shouldn't the subtext of that complaint you mentioned be intended as a crack against the writer for not making a compelling character within the story?
Also, isn't Roy Thomas the one who wrote All-Star Squadron, a comic magazine you don't particularly care for?
In case you didn't know, Brevoort is at it again. This time using an old passage from Stan Lee about bigotry when asked told about polls that 50% of US Muslims want Sharia Law and when questioned why Marvel hires someone who wear the Arafat scarf (Sana Amanat). He is beyond ignorant and puts his fingers in his ears and yells racist rather than doing a bit of research.
