Kelly Sue deConnick doesn't belong on even an "Elseworlds" version of WW
Kelly Sue DeConnick, known for her "Bitch Planet" series and her work on "Captain Marvel" as well as her contributions to "Guardians of the Galaxy," will write "Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons," which will chronicle how Princess Diana's mother rose to power in the character's fictional home of Themyscira. After discovering earlier Miller may have reverted back to leftism, that's why I can't feel as enthusiastic about this as I'd like to. Also, wasn't Azzarello one of the writers during the "New 52" era who dumbed down WW with mediocre art of the kind SJWs would prefer, and a sickening story where the Amazons were reduced to savages? All that aside, DeConnick, as one of the main writers who destroyed Carol Danvers as a character 5 years ago - which got considerably worse when they made Carol look masculine - is not somebody whose work I care to read, even if this is only an Elseworlds-like story that's not connected with the mainstay DCU. Besides, what if tomorrow, deConnick's abruptly chosen to write WW in the mainstay DCU proper?
The book is part of a new imprint, DC Black Label, which will also launch with a Superman story by Frank Miller and a Batman series written by Brian Azzarello. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news Thursday morning.
The new stories will take place outside of each characters' current DC canon, which means creators will have the license to work independently of established storylines and fans can jump in without needing to read several back issues to catch up on plot lines.
DeConnick has drawn accolades for her work on female-driven series. And it all declined since. Their defense of such a paltry sum of copies is laughable, because it only proves she failed to draw in many readers, if at all. Not to mention the claim Spidey's been selling even a weak sum of 100,000 is also exaggerated, as sales have declined in the past year or so for many comics.
In 2015, Vanity Fair called her "the future of comics."
Shortly after the Portland-based writer began working on Captain Marvel, she mobilized the series' loyal fanbase by tweeting the hashtag #carolcorps and enlisting avid readers to voice their support of the character, whose books sold an estimated 20,000 copies per week compared to Spider-Man's 100,000.
I'd also note the use of these Portland, Oregon-based writers isn't great either, because of what I've heard about the city's "comic mafia" that's been limiting who can write comics for the mainstream. DeConnick also made the serious mistake of telling the audience she doesn't want them to buy her books, arbitrarily justfying politics at all costs, and proved she's not qualified for the job if all she's concerned about is her own biased beliefs. One more reason besides the arrival of Bendis at DC why it's not good news coming there.
Labels: dc comics, indie publishers, marvel comics, misogyny and racism, moonbat writers, msm propaganda, Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman has effectively vanished in 2011. What we have right now is a sad pastiche of the real thing.
Her entire background was profoundly stupified, from a clever re-interpretation and redemption of the Pandora myth, to "Hercules, but with a vagina"; And the character itself was downgraded from female-paragon, warrior-diplomat to "Xena with superpowers".
Not to mention how much it completely misses the concept's mark, to make anything special about WW stem from a deadbeat dad's magic spunk, as opposed to the combined essences of all female Olympians.
I for one can't wait for the proper character to return. I just hope it happens not by the hand of yet another deranged ideologue.
