The Four Color Media Monitor

Because if we're going to try and stop the misuse of our favorite comics and their protagonists by the companies that write and publish them, we've got to see what both the printed and online comics news is doing wrong. This blog focuses on both the good and the bad, the newspaper media and the online websites. Unabashedly. Unapologetically. Scanning the media for what's being done right and what's being done wrong.

IDW adapts 1997's Event Horizon into a prequel comic

Looks like IDW's continuing to demonstrate how far their descent into wokeness goes, as according to Variety, they're publishing a prequel to the 1997 horror thriller Event Horizon:
Almost 30 years after it spooked cinemagoers in 1997, Paramount‘s cult horror “Event Horizon” is getting its first expansion.

Rather than hitting screens, however, “Event Horizon: Dark Descent” is an official comic book prequel series from IDW Publishing, with the first issue hitting shelves in August.

The five-part series will, according to the publishers, “embrace the hard-R rating” of the movie and “terrifying cinematic universe” created by director Paul W.S. Anderson and writer Philip Eisner. Taking place before the events of the film, the comics will tell the story of the final fate of the original Event Horizon crew and ask, what really happened to Captain Kilpack and the first crew as their ship journeyed across a nightmarish realm of torments beyond imagining?

At the helm for “Event Horizon: Dark Descent” are a crew of acclaimed comic book creators, including multiple Eisner Award-winner Christian Ward (writer of “Batman: City of Madness”), powerhouse sci-fi artist Tristan Jones (“Aliens: Defiance”), and rising star colorist Pip Martin (“That Texas Blood”).
Yup, just what the world needs. More horror themes, and a number of creators who've practically specialized in darkness. And all coming from a company that went overboard with how they handled other licensed merchandise adaptations like Jem and the Holograms. This latest venture is no improvement. When will IDW be going out of business already?
