Two delayed miniseries from DC raise two good questions in one
First, we had news of Frank Miller's Batman miniseries, titled Holy Terror, Batman, being delayed because DC was "too squeamish" to allow one of its high profile heroes take on the al Qaeda. Now, according to this LITG column from last month, even a miniseries written by Greg Rucka* in which he seems desperate to spotlight his introduction of that new lesbian take on Kathy Kane, the Batwoman, is also being delayed, because of:
* By now, after some thought, I think Rucka is little more than a very quixotic writer who's trying much too hard to prove that he isn't setting out to write a tawdry panderfest (I read the interviews at the Vic Sage fansite). Then again, most of what he's written is far from selling very much, so I guess I'm not alone in thinking that.
DC's nervousness about potentially damaging a brand with the publicity a title lead gay Bat-character may bringWhy do I get the feeling that Rucka's miniseries will be released, but Miller's will be less likely? If that turns out to be the case, it'll naturally beg the following question: it's okay to depict Batwoman as a lesbian but not okay to depict Batman fighting Islamic extremism? If that's what turns out to be, one can only ask, where's the logic in that?
