Bob Layton travels to south Korea
Renowned comic book artist, writer and editor Bob Layton is coming to Korea for a month-long visit to meet fans all across the country. While it's great Shell-Head's got a cult following over in the far east, one must wonder if the readerships there are aware what a fiasco it's become artistically in the past decade, ever since Kieron Gillen retconned Tony Stark's parents into step-parents instead. What Gillen did is as much a slap in the face to Layton's hard work as it is to Stan Lee's. And the worst part is that, if C.B. Cebulski won't reunite Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson as a married couple, he won't restore Howard and Maria Stark's biological parenthood of Tony either.
Layton is widely recognized for his contributions to the comic book industry and Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He may be best known for his work on Iron Man, but his ink has also appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man, The Avengers, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk and X-Men, to name a few. He has also worked with DC Comics and was one of the chief architects of Valiant Comics' Valiant Universe. [...]
This is all part of a world trip Layton embarked on to celebrate his 70th birthday this year.
"He has a great appreciation for Korean food, entertainment and culture, so he planned for Korea to be the final stop on his trip," said Joey Croner at DCC. "We're more than thrilled to have Mr. Layton as our guest in Korea. Iron Man has become one of Korea's most prominent pop culture icons and just about everything that Korean fans love about Iron Man can be traced directly back to his work on the character. We hope a lot of fans take advantage of the opportunity to come and see him."
At least the Marvel purists can recognize that anything of this sort coming post-2000 needn't be considered canon. It's long been apparent that the real MCU perished long ago. Disregarding these forced modern changes can help ensure Layton's best Marvel work remains in high regard.
