Jim Lee again pays the wrong kind of tribute

Event Hubs did a sugary highlight of veteran artist - and now unqualified DC president - Lee's illustration of the Kitana character from Mortal Kombat, a video game franchise I've long considered despicable becausenof its heavy reliance on graphic gore:
From designing some of the most popular 90s X-Men looks to creating the Wildcats, Jim Lee's talents are among the best in the business. I say all of this to say that seeing Lee illustrate one of the most beloved fighting game characters of all time, Mortal Kombat's Kitana, is an incredible treat and doing so even caught the attention of Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon. [...]

This depiction of Mortal Kombat's Kitana is fearsome and powerful. From the shading to her overall look, it really feels like there's some of that early Image Comics style shining through here.

Lee's Kitana illustration looks so good, in fact, that Ed Boon shared it out and was clearly very impressed by it.
Well to me, it looks rather dull, with the girl's chest appearing to be watered down in proportion, and Lee did let know in one of his livestream recordings several years back that, in accordance with woke standards becoming the norm at the time, he was going to scale back bust sizes in his illustrations. And I can't get excited about something based on a video game that's decidedly one of the worst influences in pop culture for over 3 decades now. This isn't a "treat" at all, just an insult to the intellect.
As we know, DC Comics and NetherRealm Studios are related through Warner Bros., so it would be fantastic and plausible to see Jim Lee create a special skin for Kitana in NRS' upcoming fighting title, Mortal Kombat 1. We don't know if there are any plans for something like that, but based on this amazing sketch, maybe there should be.

If we did see Jim Lee create skins or design a character for Mortal Kombat 1, it actually wouldn't be the first time we'd see him lend his talents to the franchise. Back in 2013, Lee handled the design for Scorpion in Injustice: Gods Among Us, who joined the cast as a guest DLC character.
And that was a game building on quite a bit of wokeness-in-darkness, based on its employment of the premise Superman-Turns-Evil, a cliche which has been in use for far too long. I don't think even Batman's seen such pathetic abuse as much as the Big Blue Boy Scout has. And it wouldn't be fantastic or plausible at all if Lee contributed to any new Kombat entry; only shameful. But given his pretentious track record in all the years he's been with DC, it probably wouldn't be shocking if he did add more to such an awful game franchise.

Not fond of the wokeness (and not fond of MK either), though that being said, I will state Superman's downfall was still not nearly as bad as how they could have done it (they could have just as easily made him more like Brightburn and basically evil from birth). Heck, they could have just as easily depicted Superman like Zeno here (and what's worse is that the latter is treated as a firm good guy despite the horrific actions he's conducting there, and this is an ANIME, not any Western stuff):

Bear in mind this was all after he erased someone by the name of Zamasu (a fully genocidal god who tried to exterminate all mortals and fully deserved the erasure at that after everything he did), yet decided to do essentially the same thing (the clips came after Zamasu's erasure). The manga arguably was even worse, which you can read here if you want:

Even going by Japan's annoying tendency as of late to depict God as the true villain, this was beyond infuriating (and this is speaking as someone who hated Bahamut's rewrite in Final Fantasy XV Dawn of the Future to become the actual villain). Managed to even dent Goku's character as a result. At least DC at its worst didn't subject Superman to THIS kind of abuse, not even with Injustice.

Think you can do a writeup on that bit, BTW? That certainly indicates even Japan's not necessarily immune to wokeness. Zeno's essentially that Irredeemable guy. Plutonian I believe his name is? Only somehow he's even MORE pretentious since they still label him a good guy, still label him as pure of heart and innocent, good enough that GOKU's friends with him, while at least Plutonian's still mentioned to have fallen from grace.

Yes, I'll try, thanks for asking.
