The Four Color Media Monitor

Mark Evanier, who'd worked in the past on Gold Key publications and a few other companies and published a bio for Jack Kirby, laments the money spent on the Iraq war, going by a Raw Story article claiming that 4 trillion were swindled. 2 years ago, Evanier also said that:

Fred Kaplan asks two important questions: Was it worth it? And did we in any sense win? I’d say no on both counts and my sense is that even most folks who’d say yes today are spinning furiously to be able to say that and perhaps even to convince themselves.

For heaven's sake, what's money compared to human life? There were superheroes in the past like Spider-Man who had chances to make a fortune, but let it go when bad guys made things difficult, and in the end, what mattered was when Spidey et al saved innocent lives. Has Evanier learned nothing from the comics he'd read and worked on as a writer/editor?

What makes this all the more bewildering is that Evanier considers Kirby, a man who fought in WW2 a true genius and worked for him once. If the US politicians leading WW2 said that it would "pay for itself", would he have a problem with that? And if Kirby were alive today and fought for the sake of innocent people in Iraq, would Evanier turn against him?

Too bad Evanier has to be another veteran in the comics world who can't place the blame upon the vile tyrants like Saddam for causing all the reasons why a war would need to be fought.

Update: a few years ago, he even signaled he was fine with the plans to build a mosque at Ground Zero and buys into the whole notion of "Islamophobia". Just one more reason to feel sorry for him.
